I found a treasure by the campfire this spring and our family has been enjoying it ever since.
The world seems to be changing quickly. Technology is hard to keep up with, politics is frustrating, the news is distracting, and I find myself in a re-creation mode to make a living, which adds stress to our life.
While I sat by the fire in April with my wife and cute little kids watching the flames dance toward the sky and I thought of Jubal Sackett. I mentioned this to Vernie and she looked it up on her phone and started reading. For the next couple of weeks we read the novel each night and the campfire has added a special atmosphere to this special time. Reading has always been enjoyable for our family but this was extra special to be in the woods, surrounded by the sounds, smells, and beauty of the outdoors. It just meant more to read by the fire light. I am really thankful for this change of technology making it possible to read at night by firelight without other sources of light that often ruin the point of a fire, just the smart phone. A real blessing in my life!
The frustrations, hard work, fear, and uncertainties of daily life are eased with the blessings of technical advances that we can utilize daily in this great time of history. It has been really nice this spring and summer; the perfect ambiance of the fireside, the kids here with us, Vernie reading a great story, the crispness of the air, the mild scent of the fir trees, the gentle breeze, the campfire food, the shared thoughts and feelings of everyone, and the simple pleasure of being together: loving each other. Truly a new found treasure in my life. Whoever you are who in the long link of inventors of things like kindle and the smart phone I have one thing to say: Thank you!
