I have spent my life studying agriculture. I love it! Agriculture is humans manipulating nature for our benefit in a way that makes the nature more productive than it was in its original form. This has been done both greatly and poorly but I will not discuss this now.
The purpose of this post is: There are thousands of people who are knowledgeable and can use their knowledge to do what they enjoy and could find great personal fulfillment in their life but they lack the power to do it. Are you good at something you want to do with your life but are stuck. are you asking how do I get paid for it? Example: I know something about growing food and I want to teach you about that but can I fulfill the desire to help you and get paid at the same time?
I can focus my work 100% on serving you by teaching what I know. If I choose this model than I need to figure out a way to monetize my work so I can make a living. Another option is to teach after working another job that meets my need for money. A third option is to teach at an established organization that will pay me. There may be other valid options but I will discuss these three today.
Option one is what I want because there are so many great opportunities I can utilize to achieve my goals and find personal fulfillment from life. If I teach after working another job then I will not be true to myself because I know I really want to do this all of my working hours. Teaching in the establishment will not bring me fulfillment because I will be teaching their curriculum instead of exploring the things which are of most interest to me and benefit to you.
Knowing what I know I have created many food producing farms and have supplied millions of calories to grateful families in many states. This is translated into the power created directly from the knowledge that I used to organize nature in a working farm.
I have shown other people how lay out the land with barns, greenhouses, shade houses, gardens, row crops, hayfields, pastures, vineyards, orchards, grain bins, machine sheds, fences, ponds, irrigation, etc… As these people have built and operated successful food production this also shows the knowledge being translated into power.
A car has potential power to transport but takes a driver, fuel, oil, good tires, good maintenance, etc… Without these things the car still has potential power but to utilize the power we need to organize what is needed so we can use the car to it’s full potential of transporting us safely and quickly. This is where I have observed people getting stuck. They are the car with great potential power. But they need to organize the parts: gasoline by filling the tank, checking the engine for the proper oil level, making sure the driver has a license, measuring the tire tread, and checking all other systems of the car to ensure it is ready for the trip. There is another name in this analogy for what we are calling organizing. In real life we call it business. When we take care of business we are doing maintenance on the car. When an entrepreneur builds a business she may create a new form of transportation like a ski lift or she may organize an existing form of transportation to do something unique.
So what about my desire to teach people how to grow their own food? I know how. I have done it all my life. I have used dozens of gardening methods and can teach them in detail. I know how to teach effectively I have done it in classrooms, homes, churches, gardens, forests, and campfires. So my knowledge of food production is there and my teaching skills are there. This is where many of you are. You are qualified and able to do what you want. So we have our car, in fact we have the perfect car, the car of our dreams but we are not yet driving it. The next step is organization. Where are you going to drive? How fast? How safe? Who is the driver? What kind of fuel? What road? How long before stopping?
When we can answer all of these things we will be organized. We will have built our business.
There are unlimited ways to begin finding the answers to these questions. The most important is that we start. I like to visualize the end of the business or the place I will arrive in my car. I write this down and engineer the business in reverse this helps me organize every needful thing for my success along the way. If I know I am traveling over a mountain in the winter I should have snow tire chains and practice putting them on while I am comfortable at home so I am prepared and even excited about using them if the need arises. I have built successful businesses as far as food production. I have never built a successful business that made a large profit. I would like to accomplish this as part of my new business. So I will need to incorporate this into my plan.
In todays world we need money to thrive in society and make the world a better place. So the pursuit of a profitable business is a great thing. The fact is that incorporating profit into the business is mandatory for success. Historically the largest numbers in the population have been laborers working for a business owner. The result of this has been a mindset in the majority of us that we make a living by having a job. It is true that we can make a living by working a job. But it is not the end of the story. But sadly for the majority of us this is the end of the story. This seems to be the only option told to us. The people making the most money are not working for somebody else. They own their own business. They see that the car is maintained, that it travels, and returns home safely. When it needs organization they organize, when it needs repair they see that it is done properly and quickly, they are ever watchful, diligent, and resourceful. Now it is up to us to become the business owner that we ought to be. Doing something we love. Helping people achieve their goals. And getting paid in the process.
